Delano Las Vegas

Delano Las Vegas, formerly known as THEhotel, is a 45-story 1,117 room luxury suite hotel. It is owned and operated by MGM Resorts International. It is located in Paradise, Nevada on the Las Vegas Strip within the Mandalay Bay complex. It was renovated and rebranded as the Delano Las Vegas on September 2, 2014, under a partnership between MGM and Morgans Hotel Group.

Historically all rooms in the hotel were suites of at least 750 square feet (70 m²). Each suite comprises two rooms. Floors 39-41 (marked 60-62 in elevators) house Penthouses, which range from 1,500 to 2,500 square feet (140 to 230 m²). There is also a single Presidential Suite, named "HP", that is over 4,500 sq ft (420 m²). There are also "deluxe" suites which are available to guests. While similar in style to traditional hotel rooms (single room), they are located on the Penthouse level and feature upgraded sheets, bath products and other amenities not found in the standard suites below.

The hotel is home to a Michelin-starred Alain Ducasse restaurant called "MiX" at the top of the hotel.

Bittencourt was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His son Leonardo currently plays for 1. FC Köln.

Franklin (Peanuts)

Franklin Armstrong is a character in the long-running comic strip Peanuts, created by Charles M. Schulz. Introduced on July 31, 1968, Franklin was the first African-American character in the strip. He goes to school with Peppermint Patty and Marcie. In his first story arc, he met Charlie Brown when they were both at the beach. Franklin's father was a soldier fighting in Vietnam, to which Charlie Brown replied "My dad's a barber...he was in a war too, but I don't know which one." Franklin later paid Charlie Brown a visit and found some of Charlie Brown's other friends to be quite odd. His last appearance was in 1999, the year before Schulz's death.

Publication history

A Los Angeles schoolteacher named Harriet Glickman wrote to Schulz on April 15, 1968, urging him to introduce a black character into Peanuts. This began a correspondence between Schulz and Glickman that led to Schulz's creation of Franklin. In an interview in 1997, Schulz discussed receiving a letter from a Southern editor "who said something about, 'I don't mind you having a black character, but please don't show them in school together.' Because I had shown Franklin sitting in front of Peppermint Patty. [...] I didn't even answer him." Franklin's skin color was mentioned in The Charlie Brown Dictionary, a picture dictionary using the Peanuts characters; he was referred to in the definition of "black" in showing a picture of him talking on the telephone, where the color of the telephone is black. The description also says that "black may also refer to Franklin's skin tone, which is also known as a Negro person."

State of Franklin

The State of Franklin (also the Free Republic of Franklin or the State of Frankland) was an unrecognized, autonomous territory located in what is today eastern Tennessee, United States. Franklin was created in 1784 from part of the territory west of the Appalachian Mountains that had been offered by North Carolina as a cession to Congress to help pay off debts related to the American War for Independence. It was founded with the intent of becoming the fourteenth state of the new United States.

Franklin's first capital was Jonesborough. After the summer of 1785, the government of Franklin (which was by then based in Greeneville), ruled as a "parallel government" running alongside (but not harmoniously with) a re-established North Carolina bureaucracy. Franklin was never admitted into the union. The extra-legal state existed for only about four and a half years, ostensibly as a republic, after which North Carolina re-assumed full control of the area.

The creation of Franklin is novel, in that it resulted from both a cession (an offering from North Carolina to Congress) and a secession (seceding from North Carolina, when its offer to Congress was not acted upon, and the original cession was rescinded).
